About Us
Smith´s Orchard was probably the first in the area. Dating back to the 1930s, it was purchased in 1954 by Michael´s father, Morrell. The orchard in the ´50s consisted of mixed varieties of cherries, peaches, apples, pears, quinces and grapes which were sold to green grocers in Wangaratta and Benalla, with the remainder being railed to Melbourne Market on the 4 pm train. Much of the old orchard has been replaced in the last ten years with newer varieties of cherries. We have kept some of the older varieties of quinces, mulberries, apricots etc., to make our jams, as these have a much more original flavour.
Cathy started making our hand-made jams around 2000 and has awards from Royal Melbourne and Wangaratta Shows. Cathy posts out orders as far as Sydney and Melbourne and welcomes orders from anywhere in Australia. We are now moving away from sending our produce to Melbourne Whole-sale Market, instead providing cherries to our customers and coaches at whole-sale prices directly from our Glenrowan Orchard Shop.
Our fruit is virtually chemical free and tested for Chemical and micro-contamination for your ease of mind.
