Description
British Pattern 1888 Model III. Imprints of the inspection marks/proofs can be faintly seen on the ricasso but the maker is unknown. Manufactured/issued October 1896 (10 ’96). Pommel,tang and crossguard finished in gloss black. Grips are secured by screw bolts as per the model III and they are very ornate in both timber and finish. The bayonet has an “N” stamped to the pommel for Navy. Bayonet could be a naval finish or for an officer or both.
Scabbard has Enfield proof and acceptance marks with an issue date of 1901. Australia serial number stamped to frog stud and D^D stamped to the locket mouth.
