Description

This is a British Pattern 1876 socket bayonet for Martini-Henry converted by Citadel Arsenal to fit the .303 Martini Enfield rifle. Socket has been bushed for the smaller diameter barrel. When compared to the British Pattern 1895 bayonet the position of the slot has not been changed so that the this bayonet still fixes to the right had side of the rifle, like the P1876; the Pattern 1895 fixes underneath. To allow for the higher foresight the bridge to the rim has been cut out. This bayonet has some Egyptian markings to the under side of the blade. The new serial of “175” has been stamped to the elbow and also the the frog stud of the scabbard. overall both the bayonet and scabbard are in very good to excellent condition with no damage or pitting. The scabbard chape has been re-positioned and the tip is missing. (Reference BCB M7)
