Description
Australian Pattern 1907 bayonet with hooked quillon manufactured at Lithgow and dated 1914. This bayonet was issued early in 1914 prior to some moulding changes and has the typical proof marks on one side of the blade/ricasso and the clear marking “LITHGOW” and date (1914) on the other side of ricasso. The bayonet was issued to the Third Military District (Victoria) and is marked 3MD26367 to the crossguard. The scabbard is the early style with the teardrop frog stud, figured locket and chape, the chape has the proof mark of the A inside the 6 pointed star. The locket is green painted and has the marking to the mouth lip to a Military District. It clearly shows “MD” but the numbers are indiscypherable due mainly to their size. The scabbard is dated 1915 with the rear of the leather stamped with the word LITHGOW followed by the “A in the star” followed by the date 1915.
The bayonet and scabbard are in excellent condition without rust and/or pitting. There appears to be no evidence of cleaning and/or polishing. There are of course very small marks from general usage.
