Description
Belgium Yataghan for Garde Civique bandsman sidearm. Similar to the Model 1882 bayonet, however, this is not a true bayonet as it cannot be attached to a rifle. The hilt lacks a slot and press stud mechanism, and the guard has no muzzle ring. Normally upper side of the pommel is stamped with a musician’s lyre over a letter “A” over a number. In this example only a partial “A” is visable with the number “79” This appears to be so because of cleaning due to pitting a very long time ago. Greg has this piece noted as being from the Major Von Stein collection. (Reference Kiesling #691)
