Description
Austrian Model 1895 Ersatz (emergency) bayonet for Mannlicher rifle. A single piece of flat metal was used to manufacture the blade for this Austrian ersatz bayonet. Adding a 90 degree twist to the flat steel created its single-edged inverted blade (cutting edge faces upwards). The muzzle ring was constructed from a separate piece of metal and riveted to the tang. The flat metal spring is attached to the underside of the tang by the same rivets used to anchor the muzzle ring. Frog stud marked V&N (Vogel & Noot, Wartberg). Whilst there are many variants to this bayonet the reference TTH Page 168 is representative of this bayonet. This particular bayonet is from the Anthony Carter collection.
