Description
The BRITISH SPIKE BAYONET or BAYONET No.4 was never produced in Australia but records indicate that is was issued in Australia to Australian troops. This particular example, Bayonet No.4 MkII* is recorded as having been issued to Australian troops whilst being deployed in Europe. The bayonets of this issue are manufactured by Prince-Smith & Stells (Code N.56) of Keighly UK. The bayonet is also serial numbered, an Australian practice.
This bayonet is marked on the face of the socket with both the manufacturers code and the broad arrow over D. The scabbard is the blackened No4 Mk1 steel tapered body. References are BCB B268 and in particular PRIEST page 200.
