Description
French Model 1874 Gras bayonet, manufactured in 1880 with the manufacturer’s details and date engraved to the top/back of the blade.
It would appear that this bayonet has been modified as a sidearm. The quillon, muzzle ring have been removed. The bayonet release catch has been ground flush but still works.
There is no scabbard and no reference can be found as to why these modifications have been made. It is more likely to be of civilian use rather than military.
