Description

British Pattern 1903 sword bayonet manufactured by Wilkinson Sword Company, London. Manufactured/issued 1904 as per scabbard but as the bayonet markings suggest this is a P1888 converted with the model dates to the ricasso overstamped. Ricasso has Wilkinson, London on one side and Wilkinson inspection mark, Bend test mark and Indian inspection mark on the other. Wood grips are secured by screw bolts and with overproud grips and filled extra hole indicate a P1888 conversion.

There is a batch number “B” to the underside of the tang. Pommel is regimentally marked/stamped “2M SM R over 96”. Blade length 303mm and overall 423mm.

Pattern 1903 scabbard has Enfield/Birmingham proof mark, acceptance mark and an issue date of 1904 “04” stamped in the leather. The steel locket mouth has two small broad arrow stamps. Rear of the scabbard belt is stamped “8.05 over G9 over 12/AIR”  indicating G Company 12th Battalion Australian Infantary Regiment of Tasmania. Both bayonet and scabbard are in very good condition.
