Description
Belgium Model 1850 Percussion Carbine bayonet. This bayonet is similar to the bayonet for the Tholivenin rifle which has the official designation is Sabre-baionette de la Carabine Moidel 1848. The only difference is is the length of the slot the shape of the spring and the larger MR of 22.7mm. Sabre blade , fullered with right side of ricasso dated 1849 and struck with “Crown over GD” in a cartouche. The left side is marked GB in an oval and with a T under a mark of a lion. Left side of crossguard is marked 1852 over M over 2272. Right side is marked “14”. Brass grip with 15 grooves steel spring secured by a screw. Scabbard is black leather with brass top/locket with loop struck with “Crown over GD” in a cartouche and with an ornate carved steel finial. Overall both bayonet and scabbard are in good condition with small areas of pitting and brass top to scabbards has a few small dents. (Reference WW 58 and K #1007)
