Description
This British (Spike) bayonet No. 4 Mk III features the fabricated socket which differs from the previous models and was solely manufactured by James Lucas Ltd of Birmingham.
The difference with this piece is the M5 scabbard made Victory Plastics. It has a tapered “D” section body with a bell mouth. The flat back provided anchorage for a steel ferrule assembly. This scabbard also is the original pattern with riveted (integral) frog. VP scabbards are series numbered by moulds and this is no. 10 mould as can be seen on the reverse. (Reference BCB B269 and page 221 – Priest pages 148/9 for the scabbard)
